Pillars of Hope, Inc. (POH) has had the honor to sponsor the collaboration event between POH and Church Mexico once again on July 4th and 5th! The foundation of this mission is founded in one of our core pillars, prevention. These pillars represent the part of our organization dedicated to the collaboration mission of this event, “Rescuing kids before they need rescuing.”

We had the honor of sponsoring 35 participants ranging from the age of 12 to 21 years old. Church Mexico brought in 6 volunteers to facilitate the event that is focused on providing resources to young girls including identifying human trafficking risks, what a healthy relationship looks like, and most importantly, having a vision for their future and goals that is more than what they believe they are destined for.

Over the two day event there were many different activities including the following: icebreakers, volleyball, water games and competitions, art therapy, bouquet making, and so much more. Church Mexico emphasizes creating an environment where young women can learn about all the possibilities in their life despite what is expected of them and their future. They are dedicated to giving each participant an opportunity to learn about God and what a relationship with him would be if they wish to pursue it.

Last year Morgan (POH Asst. Executive Director) had the honor of attending, and it quickly became one of the most amazing experiences she had ever had the honor of being a part of. One of the goals of the Pillars of Hope and Church Mexico is that we would bring together churches across all of Northern Mexico to create this event and environment for young women to learn what we have been teaching and providing resources for the past two years. It is with great excitement that this year the Pillars and Church Mexico collaboration brought together 5 different cities compared to the 1 city we brought together last year. As Church Mexico continues to grow and our mission of “Rescuing kids before they need rescuing continues to grow, we hope to have monthly events in each city, bringing together more kids, providing more information and resources to every child that reaches out.

“On August 15th-17th, I had the honor and blessing of being the Pillars of Hope representative at the collaboration event organized by Church Mexico and sponsored by Pillars of Hope. Through this collaboration even POH was able to achieve one of our core Pillars– Prevention. Personally and spiritually, this event was one of the most life-changing experiences I have ever been blessed to have. Church Mexico has established a presence of God in a community that is stricken with severe poverty and crime, and they have become salt to the earth in Northern Mexico. The collaboration mission was about empowering young girls from the ages of twelve to twenty to stay in school, not settle for abusive relationships, and understand their value as children of God. The majority of these girls were born into and grew up with severe poverty, no food or a bed, a lack of a father figure or parental figures, little to no electricity, and so much more. Many have never owned new clothes, and they are raised in a culture where their best option is to drop out of school and get married, even as young as fourteen.

By the grace of God, we were able to minister and educate thirty-six young girls and young women about understanding their value and that no matter what, they never need to drop out of school, they never need to settle for an abusive husband, and that they can have a beautiful and remarkable future.”

This was my first time in Church Mexico and also my first time in Mexico. But I can say without question that the work Church Mexico is doing is life-changing for these young girls and women. The way their lives were changed and their worlds were opened was not only empowering for me, but also an honor to God in the highest form.”
